We have two very productive fig trees in our backyard, and towards the end of August, this is my favorite appetizer and/or dessert.
4 ripe figs
Greek yogurt or mascarpone cheese
Salted nuts, any variety, chopped
- Slice off stems from figs, and then halve them. Then slice a little off the rounded side so that the halves will stay flat on your tray.
- Place a small dollop of yogurt or cheese on each half – about 1/2 teaspoon, depending on the size of your figs.
- Drizzle each with honey.
- Sprinkle with nuts.
- Serve at room temperature.
This recipe also works well with ripe apricots. For the nuts, chopped pecans are my favorite, but pistachios, almonds, and cashews are also wonderful.
