Heavenly Figs

We have two very productive fig trees in our backyard, and towards the end of August, this is my favorite appetizer and/or dessert.

4 ripe figs
Greek yogurt or mascarpone cheese
Salted nuts, any variety, chopped

  1. Slice off stems from figs, and then halve them.  Then slice a little off the rounded side so that the halves will stay flat on your tray.
  2. Place a small dollop of yogurt or cheese on each half – about 1/2 teaspoon, depending on the size of your figs.
  3. Drizzle each with honey.
  4. Sprinkle with nuts.
  5. Serve at room temperature.

This recipe also works well with ripe apricots.  For the nuts, chopped pecans are my favorite, but pistachios, almonds, and cashews are also wonderful.
